Recognizing the importance of building a strategic research, innovation, and extension portfolio to spawn an army of 21st century intellectual capital geared and ready for the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through the Office of Planning, Research, and Knowledge Management (OPRKM-Research Management Division), and the joint University Research Directors of the Philippine Higher Education Research Network and Higher Education Regional Research Centers (PHERNet – HERRC), will be holding the National Higher Education Research, Innovation, and Extension Conference on 22-23 November 2017, Crown Regency Hotel, Cebu City.

With the theme, “Transitioning to Innovation: Research and Extension in Philippine Higher Education in the 21st Century,” this year’s Conference underscores the importance of partnership- building on research and innovation and human capital development, amidst Industry 4.0. The Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a major role in the 4th Industrial Revolution, by continuously creating knowledge, and serving as engines of innovation through its mandate on research and development, extension, technology transfer and academe- industry linkages.

The Conference aims to promote research and extension excellence in HEIs and acknowledge various strides of the government, aca¬deme, and industry collaborations. CHED, will also conduct a national public consultation on its proposed Memorandum Orders on new policy directions for research, innovation and extension for higher education in light of the 4th industrial revolution; and announce the National Call for Proposals for Higher Education Research, Innovation, and Extension under its Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program.

As an event highlight of this year’s Conference, CHED will award, through its “Night of Excellence,” the editors of the Journal Incentive Program (CHED JIP) – recognized publications for both Journal Challenge and Journal Incubation grants. The Journal Challenge grantees shall receive Php 500,000 cash award per year for a period of three (3) years, while the Journal Incubation grantees will receive Php 400,000 cash award per year for a period of three (3) years.
