On 13 November 2018, Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III, DPA, together with Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla of the International Affairs Staff and a representative from the Scholarships for Graduate Studies – Abroad of the K to 12 Transition Program, warmly welcomed the following delegates: 1) Mr. Kevin Punzalan, Senior Trade Officer of the Netherlands Embassy in Manila; 2) Ms. Rodehlia M. Legasto-Macaspac, Ed.D, Manager of the Center for Professional Development and Academic Partnership from Our Lady of Fatima University; and 3) Mr. William Sanchez, International Officer of the Saxion University.
Saxion University is a renowned institution in the Netherlands with approximately 27,000 students, including 3,500 international students from 89 different countries. Saxion University has three campuses in the East of the Netherlands – one campus each in the cities of Deventer, Enschede, and Apeldoorn [1].
The university offers the following graduate programs with a duration of 1 to 2 years [2]:
● Master in Facility and Real Estate Management
● Master in Applied Nanotechnology
● Master in Business Administration (MBA)
● Master in Innovative Textile Development
● Master in Management (MA)
Saxion University has an existing partnership with different higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines such as: 1) Ateneo de Manila University wherein their project aims to explore the needs in the teacher education in the Philippines; 2) Claret School for vocational and training programs; and 3) with the University of Asia and the Pacific.
The dialogue with the CHED and the delegates aims to institutionalize the partnership between the Philippines and the Netherlands through expanding its cooperation in terms of education and to support the implementation of the K to 12 program.
In addition, Mr. Punzalan hopes to organize a conference or workshop wherein they will bring in Dutch and Filipino Alumni and experts from the Netherlands who will discuss internationalization and synergizing academe-industry linkages cooperation. He also mentioned including a visitors programme which will bring CHED and DepEd representative in order to benchmark the implementation of educational cooperation in the Netherlands.
On the other hand, Chairman De Vera emphasized the need to strategize the linkages very well in terms of metrics/outcomes, and the willingness of the Commission to work on faculty, student and program exchanges. As part of the appreciation of the Netherlands Embassy and the Saxion University, the delegates handed over tokens of recognition to Chairman De Vera.
