Hosted by the Department of Education (DepEd), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and CHED, the Education Summit will gather about 500 key education stakeholders for the crafting of inputs to the Philippine Development Plan (2017-2022).

            At the Pre-Summit, which was attended by more than 70 higher education leaders and decision-makers, CHED Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan emphasized the need to discuss and strategize as partners and as Filipinos deeply committed to the pursuit of higher education as a critical factor in Philippine development in the next six years.

            The participants reflected on the sector’s roles and commitments in relation to the 10-point agenda of the Duterte Administration while focusing on two key pivotal and co-equal missions of higher education, namely: 1) higher education as a force for social and cultural transformation and 2) higher education as accelerator of innovation and inclusive economic development. These topics will form part of the parallel sessions on higher education on the second day of the Education Summit which hope to elicit stakeholders’ views and suggestions for specific, targeted and time bound strategic action points, policy reforms and programs on higher education.

CHED Chair Licuanan expressed confidence that with DepEd, TESDA and CHED working together, the Education Summit in November “will be able to craft an integrative, comprehensive, and tactical education strategy that will be articulated in the next Philippine Development Plan.”

            Dr. Licuanan will deliver her presentation on November 3 entitled, “Driving Philippine higher education to meet the goals of human capital development and the knowledge economy in the 21st Century.”
