CHED takes bold action against SVDFCC’s defiance to comply with CHED issued CDO
Following the defiance of St. Vincent De Ferrer College of Camarin (SVDFCC) to comply with the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) order to phase out its five programs, CHED with the local government of Caloocan posted notices outside SVDFCC and across the city of Caloocan to inform the public about the closure of its programs.
In 2021, CHED ordered the phase out of the following programs of SVDFCC for deficiencies in their academic performance and achievement found after thorough evaluation and validation:
Bachelor of Elementary Education
Bachelor of Science in Accountancy
Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
Bachelor of Secondary Education
SVDFCC is no longer included in the list of higher education institutions authorized to offer the aforementioned degree programs.
SVDPCC is prohibited from accepting students for enrollment in the abovementioned programs beginning the 1st term of Academic Year (AY) 2022 -2023 provided that students who are already enrolled that year shall be allowed to complete their studies until graduation or transfer to other institutions with CHED NCR’s assistance.
Students who entered these programs as first-year students in the AY 2022-2023 will not be given a Special Order, which is a requirement for graduation.
Consequently, in 2022, SVDPCC filed its instant motion asking CHED to withdraw the order which the Commission denied with finality there being no legal and compelling reasons to reverse the decision.
Although that denial of appeal was questioned by SVDFCC in other courts of competent jurisdiction, CHED has not received any injunction of relief against the implementation of its decision.
Hence, in April of last year and February of this year, CHED ordered SVDFCC to immediately cease accepting students for enrollment.
“We encourage affected students to reach out to CHED-NCR for assistance and guidance. Meanwhile, this is a red light to our HEIs across the country to improve the quality and performance of their academic programs. We don’t tolerate this kind of behavior and performance. CHED is continuously evaluating the academic performance and achievements of degree programs to ensure that our students get the quality of education they deserve,” CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera said.
