Following the non-compliance of Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) Borongan City with the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), CHED has ordered the outright closure and revocation of the Government Recognition of its programs, effective AY 2025-2026.

In December 2023, the Commission ordered the outright closure and revocation of the GRs of the BEEd and 2-year Midwifery programs of OLMC and issued a show cause order for non-compliance with CHED PSGs on the offering of BS Criminology and BS Nursing programs. Upon the evaluation of CHED through its Regional Office VIII, OLMC was found to be non compliant with the PSG in Criminology and Nursing Programs of the Commission, hence, the need for imposition of sanctions by CHED.

Notably, students have also raised complaints about the issuance of their school records and credentials at media outlets and the CHEDRO Region VIII.

“The Commission has done what we can do to help OLMC but still the College remains non-compliant with our PSGs. The closure is issued to ensure student access to quality education. Rest assured that we will assist the transfer of affected students to reputable HEIs,” CHED Secretary De Vera said.

CHED stressed that 4th year students are still allowed to continue their studies and graduate by the end of AY 2024-2025, while the first year, second year and third year students will be assisted by CHEDRO 8 to transfer to other recognized programs or HEIs.
