The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) invites all Presidents and Officers-in-Charge of CHED-recognized Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to nominate a maximum of three (3) faculty to apply for the short-term program on “Strengthening the Future of Food Systems: Specialized Graduate Training in Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Bioprocessing” offered by Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) under the Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program.

All nominated faculty will be subject to evaluation of eligibility and compliance to application documents.

This program is a Stackable Microcredential which is anchored on three priority areas: Food Science, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition, aligned with national priorities on food security, public health nutrition, and sustainable agriculture.

Completion of the program, consisting of three (3) certificates with corresponding microcredential courses, will earn stackable microcredentials that may be credited toward the following graduate pathways at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT):

  • MS/PhD in Food Innovation, Nutrition and Health
  • MS/PhD in Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology

Minimum Qualifications

To provide equal opportunity to all interested applicants, institutions may nominate maximum of three (3) faculty with the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Must possess a baccalaureate degree in a relevant discipline.
  2. Faculty member holding a temporary, regular, or plantilla position involved in preparing students for roles in regulated industries, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
  3. May come from any of the following fields or other closely related disciplines
    • Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering
    • Nutrition Science
    • Biotechnology
    • Bioprocess Engineering and Technology
    • Chemical Engineering and Biochemical Engineering
    • Industrial Technology
    • Microbiology
    • Animal Science
    • Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology
    • Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock
    • Veterinary Medicine
    • Bioscience and Biology
    • Home Science and Culinary Arts

Benefits

The training and program fees for both online and face-to-face mode of delivery will be funded under the HUSAY scholarship. Specific to in-person training in Thailand, the following are also covered:

  • Accommodation expenses
  • Meals and Incidental expenses
  • Roundtrip airfare and local transportation
  • Insurance
  • Other pre-departure expenses

Due to the limited number of participants who may be accommodated, the evaluation of eligibility will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The tentative schedule of the program is from March 2026 to May 2027.

Program Structure

The microcredential program offers three (3) domains/tracks that interested faculty or HEI personnel may take based on their field of specialization:

  • D1 – Applied Biology
  • D2 – Pharmaceutical Technology
  • D3 – Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Health

Completion of the program based on chosen domain will earn units as microcredential to the following fields at MMSU or Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Food Innovation, Nutrition and Health 9 units MS in Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Health at AIT

Eligibility

To provide equal opportunity to all interested applicants, institutions may only nominate one (1) teaching OR non-teaching personnel with the following minimum qualifications for one (1) specific domain:

  1. Preferably with academic background that is vertically aligned with domain areas or with a relevant Bachelor’s degree related to the chosen domain
  2. With at least 2 years of continuous service in current institution
  3. With good moral standing
  4. Endorsed by the HEI President

Benefits

Training and program fees will be funded under the HUSAY scholarship for both online and face-to-face mode of delivery. Specific to in-person component, the following are also covered:

Number of days: ten (10) day short-term program

Date: 30 October – 8 November 2024 (tentative schedule)

Location: Indonesia

Mode of Learning: Face-to-face

The scholarship will cover the following:

        • Certificate of Completion
        • Immersion and field visits to facilities

    2. mental fitness to undertake and complete the program as certified by the SHEI’s guidance counselor, or a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.
  7. Has completed a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent from a CHED or MBTHE – recognized HEI related to the following degree programs:
    • Food science
    • Culinary science
    • Agricultural science

Specifics

Number of days: five (5) day short-term program

Date: 11-15 November 2024 (tentative schedule)

Location: Malaysia

Mode of Learning: Face-to-face

The scholarship will cover the following:

        • Program and training fees including travel, accommodations and meal expenses
        • Stipend / Allowance
        • Course Materials
        • Digital Resources for the Online Lectures
        • Certificate of Completion from the Institute of Medical Research
