Fresh from her stint at the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in New York, CHED Chairperson Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan shares in her Keynote Address her insights and valuable lessons gained as chair of the main committee of the Fourth World Conference in Beijing twenty years ago. At the Conference, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPA) became the landmark global policy document on gender equality. Dr. Licuanan played an instrumental role in the creation of the BDPA as she mediated, organized, and facilitated concessions to come up with the consensus needed for the groundbreaking document. As a defining framework for change, the BDPA outlined twelve (12) critical areas of concern towards advancing women’s rights and remains to this day, a powerful source of guidance and encouragement.
