The Commission on Higher Education strongly condemns the reported hazing incident involving criminology students of Central Mindanao Colleges in Kidapawan City during their reception rites on August 23, 2025, which resulted in injuries to nineteen (19) students. Hazing and all forms of violence have no place in our institutions of higher learning.

In response to the incident, CHED thru the Regional Office XII has formed a fact-finding team to conduct an on-site investigation at CMC. The team is tasked to validate the circumstances of the incident, review institutional policies, coordinate with stakeholders, and submit a report with findings and recommendations to the Executive Director of the Commission.

The CHED, pursuant to its powers under Republic Act No. 7722, or the Higher Education Act of 1994, will appropriately impose the corresponding sanction/s should violations of the provisions of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 and its IRR be found after investigation.

The CHED reminds all higher education institutions of their duty to enforce anti-hazing measures, strengthen student protection protocols, and cultivate safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environments.

The CHED reaffirms its steadfast commitment to uphold the rights and welfare of Filipino students and to guarantee that higher education institutions are spaces for growth, safety, and dignity.
